Nylabone chews are recognised as the most indestructible chews available for your dog. Made from tough Nylon and frequently impregnated with a smell your dog will find attractive, they are great for him to chew without having to be replaced every five minutes, or the risk of him being able to chew off large chunks to the detriment of his health. There is even a Big Dog special bone that is made of special extra tough nylon to survive in the hands of even the biggest dog. Our large German shepherd / Labrador cross has barely put dents in his, despite his best efforts! Of course, it is possible for the dog to chew bits off the Nylabone. The manufacturers claim that these very small pieces of Nylabone will harmlessly pass through your dog (much as the last plastic toy our dog managed to eat seemed to). Of course, it is sensible to make sure you get the right size for your dog - big dogs and small Nylabones would not be a good mix due to the risk of the dog being able to remove and swallow a good sized chunk. Big dog, big bone the rule should be. As with any chew toy, it is a good idea to supervise your dog whilst he chews.
Recommended, though sometimes dogs do prefer the rawhide chews. I have seen it suggested to leave a nylabone in a bag with some gravy or similar that will have an attractive smell for the dog, to get some of the smell into the bone to encourage your dog to start chewing the Nylabone.
